Oncology drug provision coordination
In Ukraine, colorectal cancer is the third most common form of cancer – and one of the deadliest. Each year, approximately 18,000 new cases are diagnosed, while more than 9,000 people die due to delayed diagnosis and treatment interruptions.
Oxaliplatin, a platinum-based chemotherapy drug, is a critical part of the standard treatment protocol. Without it, thousands of patients are at risk of disease progression or death. Yet national procurement only covers about two-thirds of the need – leaving thousands behind.
Our response
Mission Kharkiv launched a rapid procurement and distribution project to address this life-threatening gap.
Our aim: to ensure uninterrupted access to Oxaliplatin for colorectal cancer patients in Kharkiv region and, if needed, in Lviv.
Project goals
- Procure 460 vials of Oxaliplatin (230 of 100mg + 230 of 50mg).
- Distribute to 115 colorectal cancer patients with verified prescriptions.
- Prevent delays in chemotherapy cycles.
- Ensure medical and logistical compliance across the supply chain.
Why it matters
By June 2025, regional stocks in Kharkiv were nearly depleted – covering less than one month of treatment. Any further delay in public supply would have led to treatment interruption for dozens of patients undergoing active therapy.
This program was designed to:
- Bridge the state supply gap.
- Support vulnerable patients, including low-income individuals, IDPs, and war-affected communities.
- Work directly with medical institutions and oncologists to coordinate safe and timely distribution.

How it works
- Procurement: Supplier selected based on price-quality analysis; direct purchasing from Ukrainian sources.
- Logistics: Cold-chain compliant delivery to Mission Kharkiv’s medical warehouse in Kharkiv.
- Verification: All patient requests reviewed by medical staff and matched to doctor-issued prescriptions.
- Distribution: Coordinated in partnership with healthcare facilities and patient hotline services.
- Documentation: Every stage tracked, logged, and cross-checked by pharmacists and logistics team.
