«Resilience Through Medical and Cash Assistance»

Загальна медицина

The relevance of the project for communities in the Kharkiv region

The escalation of the war in Ukraine has severely disrupted access to primary healthcare and affected households’ ability to meet their basic needs. In frontline and hard-to-reach areas of the Kharkiv region, particularly in Izium and Bohodukhiv, communities face damaged infrastructure, mass displacement, and physical barriers to accessing hospitals. Our project is designed to rapidly restore access to vital services in areas with the most severe humanitarian situations.

Importance of the project:

The core value of the project lies in its integrated approach, in which mobile medical care—including consultations with family doctors and psychologists—is combined with financial support and functions as a unified mechanism aimed at providing services to remote and affected communities. This approach not only ensures treatment and medical consultations for patients but also provides them with the necessary resources to purchase medications, hygiene products, or pay for transportation to medical facilities.

Команда Mission Kharkiv

Who we serve and who we help

The project targets the most vulnerable groups of the population who remain near the front lines or live in remote villages. We focus on beneficiaries who have limited mobility, face financial difficulties, or have suffered the direct consequences of hostilities. Assistance is provided to both internally displaced persons and local community residents.

We prioritize support for those who need it most:

  • People with disabilities.
  • Seniors (60+ years old).
  • Households headed by women and single parents.
  • Families with pregnant women, infants, or multiple children.
  • People with chronic conditions requiring expensive treatment.

What we do

Mobile healthcare:

Two mobile medical units (MMUs) staffed by family doctors, nurses, and psychologists who provide care directly in local communities.

Home visits:

We provide consultations and health monitoring directly in the home for bedridden patients and people with disabilities.

Psychosocial support:

We provide assistance to individuals experiencing trauma, anxiety, and depression as a result of the conflict.

Multi-purpose cash assistance:

We provide a one-time multi-purpose payment to help cover critical expenses.

Mission Kharkiv

Building the capacity of healthcare workers and strengthening hospitals

To ensure the long-term impact and sustainability of the local healthcare system, we place special emphasis on the professional development of healthcare professionals working in frontline communities. Our goal is to provide healthcare workers with the tools and knowledge necessary to work under conditions of limited resources and the specific challenges of war. Sixty healthcare workers, including general practitioners and nurses from the Valkiv and Barvinkove communities, completed the training.

  • Priority areas for training:
    • Modern diagnostics: training in the use of POCUS ultrasound devices, which enables rapid and accurate diagnosis right at the patient’s bedside—a critical capability for mobile teams and remote locations.
    • Working with Veterans: Conducting specialized training sessions to improve communication skills with male and female veterans, ensuring that defenders receive sensitive, dignified, and professional assistance within their communities.
