Transportation Assistance
Reaching care. Restoring dignity.
For many cancer and palliative patients in Ukraine, accessing medical care is not just a medical issue – it’s a transportation crisis. Lack of safe, affordable transport leads to missed treatments, worsening health, and emotional isolation. Mission Kharkiv is stepping in to change that.
Through our Transportation Assistance Program, we provide safe and dignified medical transport for vulnerable patients in Kharkiv and Sumy regions. Our services are tailored for those who cannot reach care due to war, poverty, disability, or geography.
What we do
- Transport for 720+ cancer and palliative patients to medical appointments, diagnostics, and treatment
- Distribution of hygiene kits to improve care conditions during and after travel
- Psychological support for 900 individuals, including patients, women in crisis, and veterans
- Evacuation support for those in active or mandatory evacuation zones
- Coordination with hospitals, ambulances, and local authorities to ensure safe, timely transfers
Who we help
- Adults with cancer or life-limiting illness
- Elderly and people with disabilities
- Women in crisis or post-violence situations
- Internally displaced people (IDPs) and rural residents
- Families struggling with transport and treatment costs
Why it matters
More than 30% of palliative patients in Ukraine do not receive timely care due to transport barriers. Without mobility, there is no access. Without access, there is no care.
In war-affected areas, medical infrastructure is fragile – but transportation is even more so. Our program ensures that distance, poverty, and risk do not determine who gets to live.
Mental health support on the move
Alongside transport, we offer psychosocial care to reduce fear, isolation, and trauma:
- 24 group therapy sessions
- 4 individual therapy sessions
- Run by trained psychologists in safe, confidential settings
- Tailored for oncology patients, women in crisis, and veterans

Transportation is treatment
In Ukraine’s frontline regions, transportation is not a logistical detail – it is a lifesaving intervention. Whether it’s a woman in pain awaiting a diagnosis, an elderly man needing chemotherapy, or a patient stuck in an evacuation zone, Mission Kharkiv ensures no one is left behind.
