Job Description

Mission Kharkiv is one of the largest medical charitable organizations in Ukraine in terms of assistance provided. One of our key areas of work is the systematic support of adult cancer patients.

Since 2022, our organization has implemented large-scale programs for the supply of medicines, patient transportation and evacuation, first aid provision, distribution of hygiene kits, as well as psychosocial support for beneficiaries and capacity-building for medical personnel.

The Paramedic is responsible for the safe and high-quality medical support of beneficiaries during transportation, ensuring patient stability at the pre-hospital stage, and providing prompt response in case of deterioration of the patient’s condition.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Assessment and Decision-Making

  • Conduct pre-transport medical assessment and evaluation of the patient’s condition
  • Administer medications if necessary to stabilize the patient, in accordance with the Ukrainian Ministry of Health orders on pre-hospital care
  • Make informed decisions regarding approval or refusal of transport, providing explanations to relatives and informing the mobile team supervisor

Medical Support During Transportation

  • Assist with the safe boarding and disembarkation of beneficiaries
  • Monitor vital signs and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
  • Perform intensive care and resuscitation measures if required

Medical Documentation and Inventory

  • Complete accompanying medical documentation according to standard operating procedures
  • Track usage of medications and consumables, manage restocking, and verify expiration dates
  • Record performance and reporting indicators in Airtable

Equipment and Vehicle Management

  • Check and maintain medical equipment readiness (e.g., stretchers, soft stretchers, oxygen cylinders)
  • Ensure medical kits and consumables are complete and functional
  • Assist the driver with routine cleaning and disinfection of the vehicle

Communication and Coordination

  • Coordinate transportation routes with the driver, assistant, and project manager
  • Advise and instruct patient relatives as needed
  • Maintain communication with receiving facilities (hospitals, hospices) to ensure smooth handover

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Medical education (doctor, feldsher, or paramedic)
  • Experience in emergency medical services, intensive care, or pre-hospital care
  • Experience with palliative or acute-care patients is an advantage
  • Experience in humanitarian or social projects is a plus

Professional Skills

  • Proficiency in intensive care and resuscitation methods
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Health protocols for pre-hospital care
  • Ability to make quick decisions in emergency situations

  • Stress tolerance and ability to work in emergency situations
  • Strong communication skills and team-working abilities
